Talking Book Corner
If you are a reader of cassette books from your local Talking Book & Braille Library, and want a way to find some more books to read, then this is a very good place to start! The national Library Service (NLS), puts a publication out every two months called Talking Book Topics, and an annual publication out which is just a cumulative gathering of the last years bi monthly publications. Now, the NLS does put these publications on their web site for viewing and downloading, but it is kind of buried and not easy to find. So for the convenience of everyone interested, I am creating this page so you can view and download the Talking Book Topics, as well as the annual cumulative Talking Book Topics put out by the NLS. In addition, you will find a direct link to a search page on the NLS web site that allows you to search their catalog of books. This is just another one of my ways of trying to help others find what they are looking for!
Below you will find links for several of the bi monthly Talking Book Topic Catalogs. Just hit enter on the link to view and browse through that catalog, or use the application key, select save target as…, to download the htm file to your own computer to keep. Since the annual cumulative Talking Book Topic Catalog is just the Bi Monthly Catalogs put all together, I only have the Bi Monthly Talking Book Topics that are not yet included in an annual cumulative catalog.
Note on browsing the catalog: When browsing a catalog, you can search for books, authors, or whatever you like using the find command (control F).

Since the annual cumulative talking book catalogs contain such a large number of books, each section of a catalog will have its own web page. Below for each catalog, you will find a link for each section. The last link for each catalog will be a download link so you can download that particular catalog if you like. The download file will be a zip file that contains five text files, which make up each section of that particular catalog.

More catalogs will be added, so check back occasionally for updates!
The NLS has took the information from the books they have in their library, both Braille and cassette, and put it all together to make an online catalog. You can do a search of this catalog using a lot of different criteria including author, title of book, and even keyword. NLS has even included books that are still in process that are not yet ready to be lent out. To do a search just go to the below link!
